About

Hi, and welcome to my blog site. My name’s Susie Williamson and I’m an author, published by Stairwell Books. Blood Gift Chronicles is my character-driven, page-turning fantasy adventure series, with themes of wildlife and the environment, social justice and marginalisation, magic, animism and dragons. Books one and two are part of a planned trilogy, but each story also easily stands alone. My current work in progress is the third instalment. The series is YA and appealing to a wide range of readers.

Originally from Yorkshire in the UK, I started out as a science teacher, until venturing out to Africa. I spent the year of 1999 in the Sudan, teaching English as a Foreign Language in universities in Omdurman and Khartoum. From there I moved to South Africa and spent several years teaching Adult Basic Education and Training, primarily in a rural township in Kwazulu Natal.

On returning to the UK, I moved to Devon, where my childhood passion for creative writing was reignited. Among a collection of varied jobs, including support work in a women’s refuge, I prioritised my time to write. Inspired by the landscapes of Africa, I began weaving the twists and turns of Return of the Mantra.

I live in Exeter with my partner, Kate, close to the river and a bike ride away from the sea. To accompany my writing I also paint, steadily filling the white-washed walls of home with landscapes and hand-painted mosaics, among other things. Click here for my Art page. My writing partner is my cat, Mia, who is finely tuned to the life of a writer, and has spent many nights watching that cursor moving to and fro.
