About

Hi, and welcome to my blog site. I’m Susie Williamson, author of the award-winning fantasy fiction series, Blood Gift Chronicles, published by Stairwell Books. The series begins with Return of the Mantra and The Warder, and features themes of wildlife and the environment, social justice and marginalisation, magic, animism, dragons, and being true to oneself.

***BOOK 3 COMING SOON***

Originally from Yorkshire, I started life as a science teacher, before venturing to Africa. I spent the year of 1999 teaching English as a Foreign Language in the Sudan. From there I moved to South Africa and spent several years teaching Adult Basic Education and Training, primarily in a rural township in Kwazulu Natal. I returned to the UK and settled in Devon, where among varied support work roles I began pursuing a career in writing and the arts.

I am a member of Clockhouse London Writers and have poetry, short fiction, and articles published in a number of anthologies and podcasts, including Dreamcatcher magazine, Focus magazine, and The Other Stories. I’m a regular attendee and panelist at various science fiction and fantasy conventions around the UK, as well as international conventions online. I am also an exhibiting canvas artist, exploring landscapes in the spaces between story and memory, sometimes touching close to the real, sometimes touching on dreamscape, sometimes leaning to magical realism. The landscapes are inspired by geographical places both in Africa and the South West England, and also mental landscapes exploring inner narratives. This work also includes a number of hand-painted mosaic canvases, whereby the intricate process becomes an integral part of the art form.
