Children’s Hour – Imogen’s Story

I hope everyone is keeping safe and well. With rainbows fast becoming symbols of hope, it is wonderful to see so much colour around. And now, with the UK weather for once being kind, there is colour in the garden of the natural kind. It feels like summer.

Today’s story is like a summery burst of colour. With the theme of sharing, it is wonderfully apt for the time. Thank you to Immy for sharing her delightful imagination and beautifully drawn illustration.

Caterpillar Shoes

By Imogen Newbery, age 8, from Exminster, Devon, UK

Once upon a time there was a caterpillar.

‘Oh, OUCH,’ squeaked the caterpillar. ‘These shoes are way too tight.’

The green caterpillar came across a shiny beetle.

‘Hello there,’ shouted the caterpillar. ‘Do you want my pink shoe?’

‘Oh yes.’ The beetle jumped up and down with glee.

As the green caterpillar walked on a little path, he saw a butterfly on a daisy.

‘Hello over there,’ called the green caterpillar.

‘Can I borrow some of those red shoes?’ said the butterfly.

‘You may,’ replied the caterpillar.

As the beautiful, glimmering sun went down, he saw a duck with no shoes!!!

‘Do you want to have my shoes?’ said the green caterpillar.

‘Are you sure?’ replied the duck.

‘I am sure.’ Now all of the shoes are gone, but the caterpillar’s gold boots were still on his feet. ‘Well, I better go shopping for more shoes, I guess.’
