Children’s Hour – Beth’s Story

Here in the UK, social isolation continues. I feel fortunate to be able to step out for a walk each day, and to live close to the river Exe. On the way to the river, just beyond the railway tracks as dusk approaches, wild rabbits venture out. It always feels like a treat to see them, and now in our house we’ve taken to collecting vegetable peelings to deposit on the walk. Then the rabbits can enjoy an evening buffet.

There is a reason for this train of thought about rabbits:

I was delighted to receive the following charming story by five-year-old Beth.

One Little Family

By Beth Willmott, age 5, from Exeter, UK

Once upon a time there was a big tree and a squirrel lived in it. A bunny came along to stay with the squirrel. The bunny asked if she could stay with the squirrel.

The squirrel said, ‘Yes, that would be wonderful’.

The bunny had three little children and they had pinecones and carrots to eat.

The End

What a wonderfully imaginative story about friendship between a polite squirrel and a rabbit prepared to adapt to life in a tree. I wonder what the rabbits think of the taste of pine cones?

Thank you to Beth for sharing her story.
